SUNNY BAR

The building on the left hand side of Sunny Bar is one of the town's most interesting buildings from the Edwardian era, it occupies all one side of Sunny Bar. It was built in 1902 when the street was widened to accommodate trams.

It has two rounded corners, but they are different from each other. That is because this was a joint project between the Corporation and architect Henry Beck. The Corporation designed the corner at the Silver St end.  The corner facing the Corn Exchange was designed by Henry Beck.  It is very stylish with curved windows, terracotta ornamentation and a wrought iron open balcony.  Beck was an imaginative architect and this is one of the town's best-rounded corners.

When the clock was replaced at Clock Corner in 1893, the internal workings were used in the clock at Sunny Bar.
