The Old George

The Old George.  This building, on the corner of Bowers Fold,  dates from around 1800 but was extensively altered in 1835 so the exact date of the rounded corner is uncertain. Further alterations have taken place since. The Old George was its original name and at one time it had stabling for 40 horses, although it lost land when Silver St was widened.  In more recent times it was renamed 'The Courtyard' but has now reverted to its original name.
