Ye Olde Crown/Wildsmith
This striking building was designed by Henry Beck as Ye Olde Crown in 1901 and constructed in 1902. It replaced another public house of the same name. It stands in isolation today but was once on a street corner with all the houses now demolished. The building has a distinctive gabled rounded corner and is one of a number of interesting buildings in the town designed by Beck. The pub has closed but is now occupied by Wildsmiths the saddlery. It was threatened with demolition when St George's Bridge was first proposed but the line of the bridge was later altered. Today the building is an important element of the St George's Conservation Area.
