The Lord Nelson

The first rounded corner here was probably built around 1810, but there is no record of the name Lord Nelson on this site until 1871.

Previously this was the name of a pub in the Market Place from at least 1811 and when it was planned to demolish the building there it seems likely that the license was transferred to Cleveland St.

In 1934 Doncaster architects Wilburn and Atkinson designed a new pub, submitting final details in November of that year so it was probably constructed in 1935.

The most prominent feature is the depiction of Lord Nelson with his ship, Victory,  above, on the central panel on the corner.

Today it is called Nelsons.
