22 SAINT GEORGE'S CHURCH
Turn right into St. George Gate, and enjoy the view of ST. GEORGE'S CHURCH. It was designed by Sir Gilbert Scott and consecrated in 1858 to replace a relatively similar but much older church, dating from around 1200, destroyed by fire in 1853. Built from magnesian limestone. its 170 ft, high tower provides the most prominent local landmark. It is regarded as a magnificent example of Victorian neo-Gothic with great richness of detail and decoration.
